National Institute for the Visually Handicapped
NIVH-DEHRADUN
Dehradun city located in foot hills of Himalayas.National Institute for the Visually Handicapped in Dehradun is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.This institute situated in Dehradun was opened for the blind and physically disabled as a National Centre.NIVH is established in 1979.It is incorporated as a Society by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India in 1982, undre the Societies Registration Act, 1860
The NIHV provides vocational training for the handicapped. It also provides
therapy services to the rural-based visually handicapped persons.NIVH was
established for human resourse development.It also provide Audio books and
assistive devices for the visully hadicapped. The Institute has a Modern School
for the physically Handicapped which provides instruction to blind, partially
sighted and low-vision children from primary to Class X. Through Braille
and tactile sensation ,the blind children are taught whereas the partially
sighted and low vision children use magnifying devices to read the printed text.
The scholars are provided with free board, lodging, clothing, tuition and other
facilities besides monthly pocket money.
